ENERGY & ENVIRONMENTAL

Yonkers’ long history of working with utility companies in the northeast includes building substations, power generation plants, gas and water distribution systems, and pumping stations; as well as rehabilitating dams, wastewater and water treatment plants.

Capabilities in water and wastewater include a strong mechanical group that self-perform process piping and equipment installation. These complement Yonkers’ strength in heavy civil and structural construction and facilitate construction of complex system upgrades, expansions and rehabilitations.

Benefits of Yonkers’ comprehensive abilities include coordinating the various processes and systems required to remain functional while rehabilitation and upgrades are performed. For example, expansion work at the New Rochelle Wastewater Treatment Plant required full bypass of existing systems for the plant to remain fully operational during construction.

Facilitating brownfield development, Yonkers has completed numerous ground improvement and site remediation projects, including closing and capping landfills and constructing leachate treatment systems.

Yonkers’ robust portfolio includes major plant upgrades including Hunts Point WWTP and New Rochelle WWTP; pumping stations for water distribution; gas main repair and replacements for ConEdison, electrical substations such as Rockview Substation, and rehabilitation of dam structures such as Sodom & Bog, Croton Falls and Cross River dams. From site remediation for the Borgata hotel in Atlantic City to a leachate treatment system for the Fresh Kills landfill, Yonkers utilizes our substantial experience and technical expertise to identify and implement cost- and schedule-effective solutions for our clients.

Hunts Point Water Pollution Control Plant

The Phase II upgrade consisted of a full-step feed Biological Nutrient Removal facility including a new electrical substation, blowers and large diameter process air piping and a new SCADA system.

Sodom & Bod Brook Dams

Key components of the New York City watershed, reconstruction and rehabilitation of these historic facilities included reconstructing the dam crest, new fuse plug spillways, new valve chambers, reconstruction of gate chambers, and cleaning and repairs to masonry fountains.

Cross River Pump Station

To enable water conveyance flexibility, the pump station was upgraded with a new piping system, new Shaft 13 structure, new piping and mechanical equipment within existing historic masonry building.

Austin Avenue Landfill

With a history of landfill remediation work that includes work at Fresh Kills and Le Jardin, Yonkers developed a Remedial Design Plan and performed the capping of the 19-acre site, with vegetation installed as erosion control.

To the accolades and “good job” praises from members of the surrounding community, the Zerega and Buhre stations, on NYCT’s #6 line, were re-opened on Sunday evening. This is the second set of two stations completed by Yonkers’ Pelham 5 Stations Team. Please wish our team a job well done!  Next up, Pelham Bay Park Station which will remain open while renewal work is performed. Read More
