SITEWORK & FOUNDATIONS

Commercial developments and public infrastructure projects often include excavation – a strength of Yonkers Contracting Company – for building foundations, roadways or highways and bridges. Founded in 1946 as an excavation and earth-moving contractor, Yonkers has provided site work and foundation construction for a wide range of public and private projects.

Excavation, rock blasting, utility infrastructure, concrete foundations, retaining walls, groundwater management are among the many elements performed by Yonkers. These founding core competencies facilitated Yonkers’ growth and diversification and continue to be significant elements within many of Yonkers’ construction projects – whether a new substation, water/wastewater treatment facility, highway or bridge, or commercial development.

Private developers benefit from Yonkers’ comprehensive understanding of construction and proactive time sensitive approach for retail centers and mixed use developments of various sizes.

Completing site excavation and constructing foundations is critical to the site’s development schedule and often encounters unforeseen site constraints. Yonkers’ ability to develop solutions, find ways to minimize costs such as crushing rock for re-use on site, and solve challenges with varying soil conditions is key to Yonkers’ success.

Major commercial developments, such as the 80-acre Ridge Hill Village, and a wide range of retail/commercial buildings, hotels and casinos are among Yonkers’ portfolio of projects. These include the Borgata and Revel casinos in Atlantic City, the Riverplace II development in Manhattan, Stop & Shop Supermarket in Yonkers and Premier Plaza in Tarrytown. Public sector site work has included re-building portions of the World Trade Center, including Towers 3&4 and the Vehicle Security Center, and public infrastructure projects such as the Rondout Shafts and the 34th Street Station & Ventilation structure for the 7 Subway extension.

WTC Towers 3 & 4

Excavation and foundation construction for reconstruction of WTC Towers 3 & 4 involved drilling and blasting to excavate rock adjacent to the active MTA subway lines that had very restrictive vibration tolerances.

Borgata Pile Foundations

After performing site remediation for the landfill site under a separate contract that required deep dynamic compaction to consolidate and stabilize the soils, Yonkers built the foundation for this 43-story Atlantic City hotel/casino, including concrete filled pipe piles and 915 pile caps.

Premier Plaza

Constructed all site work and foundations for this retail shopping center complying within LEED requirements. Work included excavation as necessary for site elevations, drainage, sewer and water facilities and construction of a parking lot.

Stop & Shop

Excavation, rock removal, water and storm drainage, and roadways construction for this 75,000 sf superstore in Yonkers, NY was completed by Yonkers working adjacent to residential neighborhoods and an existing shopping center. Yonkers also managed the building construction to strict specifications.

To the accolades and “good job” praises from members of the surrounding community, the Zerega and Buhre stations, on NYCT’s #6 line, were re-opened on Sunday evening. This is the second set of two stations completed by Yonkers’ Pelham 5 Stations Team. Please wish our team a job well done!  Next up, Pelham Bay Park Station which will remain open while renewal work is performed. Read More
