Emergency Bridge Demolition on I-95
05/06/2024 - An accident with a tanker truck started a fire and caused significant structural damage to an overpass on I-95 in Norwalk. Connecticut Governor, Ned Lamont, swiftly declared a state of emergency and I-95 was shut down in both directions. At the request of the CTDOT, Yonkers Contracting promptly responded and gathered a team to execute the emergency bridge demolition. The team worked around the clock to demolish the fire-damaged northbound overpass and clear out the heavily impacted southbound lanes. Their efficient management of the site included debris removal, road surface preparations, and urgent structural teardowns. The accident happened on Thursday, crews started work Friday, and concluded on Sunday morning in record time. This opened the highway back up to commuter traffic for the Monday morning rush.
Great work to the exceptional team whose dedication and expertise made this remarkable turnaround possible!
